Thank You. Thank You. Thank You

As most of you know by now after the passing of Mayor Mike Peters his family decided to set up a foundation in his memory that is solely dedicated to providing educational and recreational opportunities for Hartford Youth. So far we have donated over $25,000 to various sports programs, education programs and scholarships. I think we can all be sure that Mayor Mike Peters would be proud of the work his foundation is doing to improve the lives of his cities youth.

We would like to take some time and say thank you to all of you who have donated, contributed and volunteered time to help with our last 2 events. In May of this year we held a golf tournament at Goodwin Golf Course in the South End of Hartford (Mayor Mike’s home course). This tournament was in honor of not only Mayor Mike but his dear friend “Big” Mike Martin who also passed this year. Thanks to the many golfers, volunteers and donors, we were able to raise over $10,000. Not to mention we had a great time and the weather was just perfect. We are proud to report that some of this money helped sponsor two teams in the Mayor Mike Peters Little League, the first being Big Mikes Little Bats, and of course Mayor Mikes Yankees. In addition to that we are teaming up with Saturday Hoopsters to bring their program city wide. Saturday Hoopsters is a basketball league currently in the West End that serves 230 kids ages 5-12. We are now in the process of expanding this league to the North End and the South End. The South End League will be named for “Big” Mike Martin and another league will be named for Mayor Mike. It is our hope that we can raise enough funds and find enough volunteers to eventually have 5 or 6 leagues citywide. Anyone interested in volunteering as a coach or mentor please use the contact info below, it would be greatly appreciated not only by Mayor Mike’s Foundation but the kids who deserve programs like this. Mike and Mike were both generous men who loved the city of Hartford; we believe this is the best way to memorialize them for generations to come.

This past June Go Hartford! Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids was overwhelmed with the news that some pretty remarkable women from the South End of Hartford wanted to do a reunion fundraiser in order to reconnect with childhood friends and high school classmates with the proceeds going to Mayor Mike’s Foundation. These 9 women not only threw one heck of a party they also helped raise $4,000. Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids would like to thank each and every one of you who donated to this party. Without your generosity we would not have been able to raise such a fantastic amount for these kids. Each gift certificate and ticket purchased helped us help the kids. You should all be proud of this. Thank you again for your continued support.

We are pleased to announce two upcoming fundraising events. As you may know the committee of Mayor Mike’s Foundation for Kids is dedicated to organizing and/or being a part of only fundraiser events that are a good time. We like to think we put the “Fun” in fundraisers, the kind of party Mayor Mike would like. With that bold statement we would like to invite you to Mayor Mike’s Birthday Celebration happening on November 14th (Mike’s actual birthday, he would have been 61) at the Arch Street Tavern on Arch Street in Hartford. We are excited about the fire hat décor and extremely excited about the live band. Duke and the Esoterics will be providing all the grooves you’ll need to get down on the dance floor. Tickets are on sale ($30) at Mayor Mike’s or can be purchased at the door the night of the party. Fantastic drink specials and all the hot appetizers you can eat. Our second event will take place in February at Mayor Mike’s Restaurant. February 16th to be exact and if some of you remember or attended our Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Party then you know it’s one party you don’t want to miss. Once again, on behalf of the foundation committee and Mike’s family, thank you for helping us help the kids in Mike’s honor. Hope to see you at our parties!
